17 HMR – 17 Gr JHP – Remington (20023 / R17HM1) – 500 Rounds

The 17 grain bullet is the most common 17 HMR load, offering the cartridge’s flattest trajectory for small varmints. This listing is Remington Magnum Rimfire 17 HMR 17 grain jacketed hollow point ammo, MPN 20023, sold as 500 rounds. It is an affordable, accurate choice for prairie dogs, ground squirrels, and backyard pests.

Remington rates this load at 2,550 fps with 245 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The hollow point is designed to open fast on small animals, which gives clean kills and reduces the chance of a bullet skipping off hard ground. A light 17 grain bullet at that speed shoots very flat, so you can hold dead on for most shots inside 150 yards with a typical 100 yard zero. Wind will push it more than heavier bullets, so plan your holds on breezy days.

This ammunition fits rifles chambered in 17 HMR, including the CZ 457 and 455, Savage 93R17 and A17, Ruger 77/17 and American Rimfire, Marlin 917V and XT-17, Henry bolt and lever rifles, Mossberg 817, and Browning T-Bolt. A common question is whether the 17 grain or 20 grain HMR load is better. The 17 grain shoots flatter for small targets, while the 20 grain carries more energy for larger pests such as groundhogs. Another common question is how loud the 17 HMR is. It is louder than 22 LR, though far quieter than centerfire rifles, so hearing protection is still recommended.

Remington 20023 is new production ammunition, not reloads, made in the USA. It uses rimfire priming in brass cases and cannot be reloaded. This listing ships as 10 boxes of 50 rounds for 500 rounds total from one lot. Staying with one lot keeps your groups tight and your zero stable, which matters when your target is a small animal at 125 yards.
