The History of .45 Long Colt (LC)
Samuel Colt, a cartridge designer, created the .45 Colt in 1872 as a black powder round for the Colt Single Action Army (also known as the Peacemaker) revolver. This cartridge has a .454-inch bullet inside of a 1.285-inch long straight-walled case with a rim. The round is 1.6 inches long overall and is known as the .45 Long Colt (LC).
