45 Colt – 225 gr FTX – Hornady (92792) – 200 Rounds

The 45 Colt is one of the oldest cartridges still in common use, and Hornady’s LEVERevolution line gives it a modern expanding bullet. This listing is Hornady LEVERevolution 45 Colt 225 grain FTX ammo, MPN 92792, sold as a 200 round case. It works for revolver and lever gun owners who want a load suited to personal protection, woods carry, and deer at modest ranges. It also gives cowboy gun owners a modern defensive option in a classic cartridge.

Hornady rates 92792 at 960 fps with 460 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The FTX bullet uses a soft elastomer tip that is safe in tubular magazines and helps start expansion, which is useful at the moderate speeds of standard 45 Colt. Hornady loads it to a pressure intended for modern 45 Colt firearms. It is an expanding bullet for defense and hunting where 45 Colt is legal, not a cheap plinking load.

It fits firearms chambered in 45 Colt, also called 45 Long Colt, including the Ruger Blackhawk, Vaquero, and Redhawk, Colt Single Action Army, Smith and Wesson Model 25, Taurus Judge, Henry Big Boy and Side Gate, Marlin 1894 Cowboy, and Uberti and Rossi lever actions. A common question is whether 45 Colt and 45 ACP are interchangeable. No. They are completely different cartridges, except in a few revolvers built with separate cylinders. Another common question is whether this load works in the Taurus Judge. Yes, Judge revolvers are chambered for 45 Colt, though short barrels will reduce velocity.

Hornady 92792 is new production ammunition, not reloads, made in the USA by Hornady in Grand Island, Nebraska. Cases are reloadable brass with boxer primers, and the load is non-corrosive. This listing ships as 10 boxes of 20 rounds, 200 total, from one lot, so practice, carry, and hunting all use the same ammunition from your revolver or rifle. Store the case cool and dry between hunting seasons.
