Black Hills is known for small-lot precision ammunition, and pairing its Gold line with the Sierra Tipped MatchKing gives 308 shooters a modern long-range match load. This listing is Black Hills Gold 308 Winchester 175 grain Sierra Tipped MatchKing ammo, MPN 1C308BHGN8, sold as 100 rounds.
This load is listed at 2,600 fps with 2,626 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The 175 grain weight has a long history in the 308 for staying stable through the transonic zone at extended range. Sierra’s polymer tip improves the bullet’s ballistic coefficient and uniformity from bullet to bullet compared with an open tip match design. This is a target load for tactical matches, F-Class T/R, and long-range practice. Match bullets are not designed to expand reliably on game, so use a hunting bullet for deer and elk.
This ammunition fits rifles chambered in 308 Winchester, including the Remington 700 and 700 PCR, Savage 10 and 110, Ruger Precision Rifle, Tikka T3x, Howa 1500, Springfield M1A, and AR-10 style rifles. A common question is whether 308 Winchester and 7.62x51mm NATO are interchangeable. They share external dimensions and most modern rifles handle both, but check your manufacturer’s guidance, especially for older or military surplus rifles. Another common question is what twist rate suits a 175 grain bullet. A 1:10 or 1:11.25 twist, common in factory 308 barrels, stabilizes this weight.
Black Hills 1C308BHGN8 is new production ammunition, not reloads, made in the USA by Black Hills in Rapid City, South Dakota. It uses reloadable brass cases with boxer primers and is non-corrosive. This listing ships as 5 boxes of 20 rounds for a total of 100 rounds. That is the right amount to test the load in your rifle, build a dope card, and still have ammunition left for a match. Record your velocity and group size with the first box, and the remaining boxes will tell you whether a change in your shooting is you or the rifle.

This is the best match-grade .308 ammo on the market. My LaRue LT-10 MRGG achieves sub-MOA at 100 yards without breaking a sweat with this ammo, although I get a marginally tighter group with the 168gr variant. However, the 175gr really shines at 800-1000 yards, compared to the 168gr. If you want to experiment with the different loads to see which one works best for you, remember to allow your barrel to fully cool down and then clean your barrel before switching between loads. You will get more accurate results. If you are using a new barrel, please perform the recommended barrel break-in procedures to ensure you get the absolute best performance out of your barrel.
