40 SW – 165 Grain FMJ – Federal (AE40R3) – 1000 Rounds

Federal American Eagle AE40R3 is a full-power 165 grain 40 S&W training load from one of America’s largest ammunition makers. This listing is Federal American Eagle 40 S&W 165 grain full metal jacket ammo, MPN AE40R3, sold as a 1,000 round case.

Federal rates this load at 1,130 fps with 468 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. That is noticeably hotter than many 165 grain range loads, which makes it a close match for the recoil and velocity of full-power 165 grain duty ammunition such as Federal HST P40HST3, rated at the same speed. Officers and carriers who use 165 grain duty loads can train with realistic recoil at a range-ammo price. A full metal jacket bullet does not expand, so this ammunition is built for practice, qualification, and competition rather than self defense or hunting.

Any handgun or carbine marked 40 S&W will run it, from police trade-in Glock 22 and 23 pistols to the S&W M&P40 2.0, Walther PDP and PPQ in 40, CZ 75 and P-07 in 40, Ruger SR40, Taurus G2C, and the Hi-Point 4095TS carbine. A common question is whether a hotter load is harder on the gun. AE40R3 is loaded within standard 40 S&W pressure, so it is safe in any 40 S&W pistol in good condition. Another common question is why choose 165 grain over 180 grain. 165 grain is faster and a bit flatter shooting, while 180 grain has a smoother recoil feel; match your duty load if you have one.

Federal AE40R3 is new production ammunition, not reloads, made in the USA. Each round uses a reloadable brass case with a boxer primer and is non-corrosive. This case comes in factory packaging as 20 boxes of 50 rounds for a total of 1,000 rounds of 40 S&W 165 grain FMJ. Buying by the case keeps you on one production lot for consistent function and point of impact.
