Compared with lighter 165 grain 40 S&W, the 180 grain bullet moves a little slower and many shooters feel it as a smoother push rather than a sharp snap, which can help with recoil control during long sessions. The flat point profile feeds well in 40 S&W pistols and leaves clean holes in paper. A full metal jacket bullet does not expand, so this is target and training ammunition rather than a defensive or hunting load.
This ammunition fits pistols and carbines chambered in 40 S&W, including the Glock 22, 23, 27, and 35, the Smith and Wesson M&P40 and Shield, SIG P226, P229, and P320 in 40, Springfield XD and XD-M, Beretta PX4, and 40 caliber carbines such as the Beretta CX4. A common question is whether 40 S&W can be fired in a 10mm pistol. It is not recommended without a manufacturer-approved setup, because the shorter 40 case can headspace incorrectly in a 10mm chamber. Another common question is whether 180 or 165 grain is better for practice. If your duty or carry load is 180 grain, practicing with 180 grain keeps recoil and point of impact consistent.
