Frontier Cartridge is a Hornady brand focused on training ammunition, giving AR-15 owners a familiar name behind an affordable M193 load. This listing is Frontier 5.56x45mm NATO 55 grain full metal jacket M193 ammo, MPN FR200, sold as 500 rounds.
M193 describes the 55 grain ball loading that the 5.56 NATO was originally fielded with, loaded to 5.56 pressure. The 55 grain FMJ stabilizes in any common AR barrel twist and gives repeatable function for zeroing, training courses, and steel. Frontier ammunition is built for range use, so it is a sensible way to put rounds downrange without paying for match or hunting bullets. Because a full metal jacket does not expand, it should not be used for hunting.
This ammunition is for rifles chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO or 223 Wylde, including AR-15 rifles from Colt, Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Bravo Company, and Palmetto State Armory, the Ruger Mini-14 marked 5.56, the IWI Tavor X95, and the Sig MCX Spear LT. A common question is whether Frontier is really made by Hornady. Yes. Frontier Cartridge is a brand of Hornady. Another common question is whether 5.56 M193 can be used in a 223 Wylde barrel. Yes. 223 Wylde chambers are designed to handle both 223 Remington and 5.56 NATO.
Frontier FR200 is new production ammunition, not reloads. The cases are brass and the load is non-corrosive. This listing ships as 500 rounds of 5.56 NATO 55 grain FMJ M193. Five hundred rounds from one lot covers a carbine course or several months of regular practice with consistent zero and cycling. Five hundred rounds fills roughly sixteen 30 round magazines, enough to load a full set of magazines several times over during a training weekend. If you plan to use a heavier bullet for defense or hunting, zero with this load for practice and then confirm point of impact with your duty or hunting ammunition, since different bullet weights can print to different spots. Store the rounds in a sealed ammo can with a desiccant pack and they will keep for years.
