Description

M193 is the original 55 grain 5.56 NATO ball load, and Winchester produces it to military specification. This listing is Winchester USA M193 5.56x45mm NATO 55 grain full metal jacket ammo, MPN WM193200, sold as 800 rounds in 200 round value boxes.

Winchester rates this load at 3,180 fps with 1,306 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. That is true 5.56 NATO velocity, noticeably faster than many commercial 223 range loads, so it gives a flatter trajectory and runs AR-15 gas systems with authority. The 55 grain FMJ bullet has a lead core with no steel penetrator, so it is accepted at most ranges that ban green tip ammunition, and it stabilizes in nearly every AR-15 twist rate from 1:12 to 1:7. A full metal jacket bullet is not designed to expand reliably, so this is ammunition for training, carbine courses, and steel rather than hunting.

This ammunition fits rifles chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO or 223 Wylde, including AR-15 rifles and carbines, the Ruger Mini-14, FN SCAR 16, Sig MCX, IWI Tavor, HK416 and MR556, and Springfield Saint. A common question is the difference between M193 and M855. M193 uses a 55 grain lead core bullet, while M855 uses a 62 grain bullet with a steel penetrator and a green tip; M193 is lighter, faster, and allowed at more ranges. Another common question is whether 5.56 can be fired in a 223 rifle. It is not recommended because 5.56 NATO runs at higher pressure, so use it only in a rifle marked 5.56 or 223 Wylde.

Winchester WM193200 is new production ammunition, not reloads, made in the USA. Each round uses a reloadable brass case with a boxer primer and is non-corrosive. This listing ships as 4 boxes of 200 rounds for a total of 800 rounds of 5.56 NATO M193. The 200 round boxes mean fewer boxes to open on a training day, and buying in bulk keeps you on one production lot so your zero holds.
