Frontier Cartridge is Hornady’s military-grade ammunition line, and the FR310 brings a 68 grain match bullet to a 5.56 NATO load. This listing is Frontier 5.56x45mm NATO 68 grain boat tail hollow point match ammo, MPN FR310, sold as 500 rounds.
Hornady rates this load at 2,960 fps with 1,323 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The 68 grain BTHP match bullet is heavier than standard 55 grain ball, so it holds velocity better downrange and drifts less in the wind, and its match construction focuses on consistency and accuracy. That makes FR310 a strong choice for precision AR-15 work, designated marksman style rifles, and long range practice at 300 to 600 yards, at a price below premium match ammunition. The hollow point is an accuracy feature of a match bullet, not an expanding hunting bullet.
This ammunition fits rifles chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO or 223 Wylde, including AR-15 rifles with 1:7, 1:8, or 1:9 twist barrels, precision builds such as Mk12 and SPR clones, the Sig MCX, FN SCAR 16, IWI Tavor, and HK MR556. A common question is whether a 68 grain bullet stabilizes in my barrel. It performs best in 1:7 to 1:9 twist barrels, and many 1:9 barrels shoot it well, but older 1:12 barrels are a poor match. Another common question is whether Frontier is made by Hornady. Yes. Frontier Cartridge is a Hornady brand, loaded to military specifications. Only fire 5.56 NATO in a rifle marked 5.56 or 223 Wylde.
Frontier FR310 is new production ammunition, not reloads, made in the USA. Each round uses a reloadable brass case with a boxer primer and is non-corrosive. This listing ships as 500 rounds of 5.56 NATO 68 grain BTHP match, enough to build a data book and train for a full season from one production lot, so your recorded elevation holds stay valid.

I ordered 500 rounds, and they came in sealed boxes of 20. It only took a couple of days to get and nowhere did it say anything about what it was. I’ll definitely buy again!

Ammo came wonderfully packaged, 20 round sealed boxes, in the big box from Hornady, and an over box from Bulk Munitions. Return address gave no indication as to what was inside, big plus there. I’ve only had two rounds cause me trouble, and they were light primer strikes so they don’t really count. Would purchase again.
