The ELD-X, or Extremely Low Drag eXpanding, bullet is Hornady’s flagship long range hunting bullet. It uses a Heat Shield tip that resists aerodynamic heating, so the bullet’s ballistic coefficient holds steady in flight. That tip also starts expansion reliably at long range. Hornady’s InterLock ring keeps the jacket and core together for deep penetration and good weight retention at closer range. The 175 grain bullet carries a very high BC, so it drifts less in the wind and carries more energy far downrange. Hornady rates this load at 3,000 fps and 3,497 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, with a sectional density of .310. It is an excellent choice for elk, mule deer, and other big game out to long distances.
