The CCI TNT uses a 17 grain Speer TNT jacketed hollow point bullet. It has a thin jacket and a large hollow cavity designed to expand violently on impact. On prairie dogs, ground squirrels, rabbits, and crows, that means dramatic, fast-stopping hits and very little risk of pass-throughs. Because the bullet breaks up quickly, it also reduces ricochets in open fields. CCI rates this load at 2,550 fps and 245 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. That speed gives the 17 HMR its famously flat trajectory, so you can hold dead-on out to about 150 yards with a 100 yard zero. Many shooters find the hollow point opens even more dramatically than the popular polymer-tipped 17 HMR loads.

The 17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire was introduced in 2002 and quickly became a favorite for varmint hunters thanks to its speed and accuracy. It is chambered in rifles like the Savage 93R17, Ruger American Rimfire, CZ 457, Henry lever actions, and Marlin 917, as well as handguns like the Ruger Single-Six and Smith & Wesson 647.
