Description

Steel-cased ammo is one of the lowest-cost ways to keep an AR-15 running at the range, and Wolf Polyformance is one of the best-known names in the category. This listing is Wolf Polyformance 223 Remington 55 grain full metal jacket ammo with polymer-coated steel cases, MPN 22355FMJ, sold as 500 rounds.

The 55 grain FMJ bullet is the standard 223 practice weight and shoots well from common AR-15 twist rates. The Polyformance case is steel with a polymer coating that protects it from corrosion and helps it extract smoothly. The cartridges use Berdan primers, so the cases are not reloadable, which matters little to shooters who are buying for volume. A full metal jacket bullet does not expand reliably, so this is target, plinking, and training ammunition rather than hunting ammunition.

This ammunition fits rifles chambered in 223 Remington, 5.56 NATO, or 223 Wylde, including AR-15 rifles, the Ruger Mini-14, and most semi-auto and bolt rifles marked 223. A common question is whether steel-cased ammo hurts an AR-15. It is widely used in AR-15 rifles, though some shooters notice slightly faster extractor wear over very high round counts and some rifles with tight chambers can be picky. Running a few boxes first is a good test. Another common question is whether steel case is allowed at my range. Some indoor ranges ban steel-cased or bimetal-jacketed ammo, so check the rules before you go.

Wolf 22355FMJ is new production ammunition, not reloads. It is non-corrosive and uses non-reloadable steel cases. Steel cases are magnetic, so they are easy to sweep up with a magnet at ranges that require you to police your brass. Because steel cases do not expand and seal the chamber quite like brass, you may see a little more carbon on the outside of the case and in the chamber, so a quick cleaning after a long session keeps things running smoothly. This listing ships as 25 boxes of 20 rounds for a total of 500 rounds of 223 Rem 55 grain FMJ.
