The M33 is the standard 50 BMG ball round, and the M17 is the matching tracer. In a 4 to 1 belt, every fifth round is a tracer, which lets the gunner see the path of fire downrange and adjust. The rounds come linked, ready for belt-fed guns, and the cartridges can also be delinked and fired singly in bolt action or semi-automatic 50 BMG rifles. Tracer rounds burn a pyrotechnic compound in flight and are a fire hazard, so many ranges prohibit them, especially in dry conditions.
