Overview of 6.5x52 Carcano Ammo
6.5x52 Carcano is the Italian service rifle cartridge used in the Carcano M91 family of rifles and carbines through both World Wars. Today it is a collector's cartridge, and fresh brass-case ammunition is the best way to shoot a surplus Carcano.
Original Carcano bores were cut for bullets around .267 to .268 inches, while most current factory ammunition uses a .264-inch bullet. That can cost some accuracy in older rifles. 6.5x52 Carcano is not interchangeable with 6.5x55 Swedish or other 6.5mm cartridges.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I shoot 6.5 Creedmoor or 6.5x55 in a Carcano?
No. 6.5x52 Carcano has its own case dimensions, and other 6.5mm cartridges will not chamber safely. Only fire 6.5x52 Carcano ammunition in rifles chambered for it.
Why does my Carcano shoot inconsistently with modern ammo?
Many original Carcano barrels were made for bullets around .267 to .268 inches, while most new ammunition uses .264-inch bullets. The smaller bullet may not fully engage the rifling in some rifles, which can open up groups. Results vary by rifle and barrel condition.
Is PPU 6.5x52 Carcano ammo reloadable?
Yes. PPU 6.5x52 Carcano uses boxer-primed brass cases, so the fired brass can be reloaded.
More About 6.5x52 Carcano Ammo
Italy adopted 6.5x52 Carcano in 1890, and the Model 1891 Carcano rifle followed. It served the Italian military through the Italo-Turkish War, World War I, and World War II, and Finland and Germany also used Carcano rifles.
Large numbers of Carcano rifles and carbines were imported to the U.S. as surplus after World War II. They remain affordable entry points for military rifle collectors, which keeps steady demand for fresh, reloadable 6.5x52 Carcano ammunition.
