History of Black Hills Ammo

Since the beginning, Black Hills Ammunition has operated as a family-run enterprise. The company's founder, Jeff Hoffman, served as a police officer for more than 35 years and developed a practice of regularly checking the ammo he carried while on duty. When he invested in an already-existing business named Black Hills Shooter Supply in 1981, he continued to provide the same individualized attention to detail and high standards in his work.

Hoffman spent several years loading munitions while also working as a police officer throughout the day. Jeff and his wife Kristi established Black Hills Ammunition in 1988. They created customized loads made for long-distance shooting for the Army Marksmanship Unit, who gave them their first significant contract. By the late 1990s, the business was supplying ammunition to almost all military branches.

Even today, many years later, Jeff Hoffman proudly owns and runs the business, which has a staff of roughly 60. Black Hills has expanded considerably over the years, but they have maintained a strong commitment to its roots in hand-crafted, premium ammunition. Despite being a still a small business, Black Hills Ammunition is dedicated to providing only the best rifle and pistol ammunition, which gives their goods an exceptional value.

Anyone who needs just the most accurate rounds finds their products to be very popular because of the ammunition's unrivaled quality and precision. Every branch of the US Military (including its snipers and rifle teams) and law enforcement organizations across the nation rely on Black Hills ammunition because it is so dependable.

Many of the largest gun manufacturers utilize Black Hills Ammunition for testing new products because of its outstanding reputation for quality and accuracy. Smith & Wesson, Sig Sauer, HK, FN, Mossberg, and Beretta are a few of these businesses.

Brass cartridge cases and non-corrosive primers are used in the production of every ammunition produced by Black Hills. They don't make their own components, but every round they make is hand-inspected by quality control specialists at every stage of production, and any that exhibits even minor flaws is rejected.

Every piece of packaged ammunition that leaves their factory is marked with a lot number that reveals which workers created it and when.

Black Hills Pistol Ammunition

Black Hills also manufactures handgun ammunition in a number of well-known calibers, such as 357 Magnum, 38 Special, .45 ACP, and 9mm Luger.

Their handgun cartridges are perfect for shooters who are serious about their training and deserve the best. Black Hills has developed a special self-defense ammunition called HoneyBadger that differs from conventional self-defense ammunition by not using a hollow point bullet. Instead, they have opted to employ a solid copper-fluted bullet that is intended to offer maximum penetration while easily piercing garments.

Rifle Rounds From Black Hills Ammo

The .223 and 5.56 rifle ammunition produced by Black Hills Ammunition is quite well recognized. Their massive 75-grain match 223 ammunition is a very well-liked load. These calibers, which come in a variety of bullet weights, are favored by long-range and precision rifle shooters due to their shot-to-shot consistency and repeatable accuracy. Black Hills also makes larger rifle calibers like the 300 Winchester Magnum, a rifle round that is well-liked by hunters due to its excellent long-range ballistic performance, and the 338 Lapua Magnum, a military and sniper round.

One of their premium lines of ammunition is Black Hills Gold. Because the unique bullet used in these rounds provides a wide wound channel, they are designed for shooters who want more from their ammunition. Big game hunters particularly enjoy using these rounds.

Black Hills furthermore sells factory-remanufactured .223 rifle ammo and .40 Smith & Wesson pistol ammo in addition to newly produced ammunition. Their remanufactured ammunition is an excellent option for shooters on a tight budget who still demand a high degree of accuracy because it costs less than their new ammunition while still being made with the same level of dedication and quality control.

Black Hills Cowboy Action Loads

Providing ammunition for SASS and other forms of cowboy action shooting is one of Black Hills' specialties. They offer more cowboy loads in more calibers than any other ammunition manufacturer operating today, including historically accurate ammunition that may have previously been out-of-date, and they take great care to ensure that each load is authentic and suitable for use in revolvers and lever action rifles.
