Overview of 22-250 Remington Ammo
22-250 Remington is one of the fastest and flattest-shooting varmint cartridges ever made. It fires a .224-inch bullet, usually 40 to 55 grains, at 3,600 to 4,000 fps or more. That speed gives a very flat trajectory out to 400 yards and explosive results on prairie dogs, groundhogs, coyotes, and foxes.
22-250 uses the same diameter bullet as .223 Remington but carries far more powder, so it shoots flatter and drifts less in the wind. It runs in bolt-action and single-shot rifles rather than AR-15s. For an AR-15 varmint option, see our .223 Remington ammo.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 22-250 good for deer hunting?
22-250 can take deer with a heavy, controlled-expansion bullet and careful shot placement, but most hunters prefer a larger cartridge like .243 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor for deer. Some states set minimum caliber requirements for deer, so check your state's regulations before hunting.
What is the difference between 22-250 and .223?
Both fire .224-inch bullets, but 22-250 uses a larger case with much more powder, driving bullets about 500 to 700 fps faster than .223 Remington. That gives 22-250 a flatter trajectory and longer effective range. They are not interchangeable.
What is the effective range of 22-250?
In a good rifle, 22-250 is effective on varmints out to about 400 to 500 yards. Its high velocity keeps drop and wind drift low, which makes hitting small targets at long range easier than with most other .22 centerfire cartridges.
More About 22-250 Remington Ammo
22-250 began as a wildcat cartridge in the 1930s, when shooters necked down the .250-3000 Savage case to hold .22 caliber bullets. Known for years as the .22 Varminter, it was one of the most popular wildcats in the country.
Remington made it a factory cartridge in 1965 as the 22-250 Remington, and it quickly became a favorite of varmint hunters and predator callers. It remains one of the best-selling varmint cartridges in North America, offered in rifles from nearly every major manufacturer.
